Well I have been a very busy girl here on the Wight

Quay Arts has been Yarn bombed! Why do I hear you ask?





This Craft bombing is to celebrate the arts and crafts that people engage with. It is being run in association with the Voluntary Arts Group; the group is primarily based in Scotland, but are trying to spread the message throughout the UK. This year marks the first UK wide craft-bombing event to co-ordinate with Voluntary Arts Week

Voluntary Arts aims to promote participation in the arts and crafts across the UK and Republic of Ireland. We recognise that they are a key part of our culture and as such they are absolutely vital to our health, social and economic development.

For those who do not know me - my name is Tracy O’Brien and I am a craft practitioner and artist living on the Isle of Wight, this is my first collaboration with Quay Arts to celebrate all things craft. I am aiming to show that crafts have a valuable place not only in our history and culture, but also in our future.

I believe that everyday things are enhanced and enlivened by craft, from Grandma’s cosy to the latest thing in sculpture.

Well what a time I've been having lately. I have increased my WIP's, and have lots of ideas for new projects. Above is a picture of two crocheted bowls made from recycled sari silk yarn, I need a better image though as they are not showing up as beautiful as they are in reality.

 

I received a pack of Planet Penny Cotton Yarn and have been busy yarn bombing a chair, it is looking really good - more pictures to follow next month.

 

 

The weather has been hit and miss lately we have had some brilliant sunshine and at the moment it is a little showery.

Yaverland 19th April, a sunny day - but ooh that wind was fierce and cold...

Tea, Friends and Admiral Nurses

 

Tea Party Time!

 

Well it has been a busy couple of weeks, on the 9th March we held a tea party in aid of Dementia UK to raise funds for the Admiral Nurses. If you would like more information on the campaign it can be found here  http://www.timeforacuppa.org/

We had a lovely time, with lots of cake, good friends and even the weather smiled on us.

Altogether we raised £125, which is great.

 

 

Due to the tea party I have not had as much time as I would've liked to craft over the last couple of weeks.

Updates - the quilt as you go quilt - the central section is done, I just need to add the border and edging

The top down cardi is nearly finished - on the last sleeve and then just the button border to add, I may do something different there perhaps some crochet....

Talking of crochet, I am about halfway through the first blocks for the Jane Crowfoot Crochet Club pattern.

Busy week

Well, here is my update on last weeks wip's.

 

Firstly the quilt as you go patchwork, I am pleased with myself - I have completed the squares and cut the sashing in readiness for this Friday's class at Oliven.

The top down cardi is going well - the images below are progress as of Friday, I have managed to knit another 4" on the length since then, so only a few more inches to go. Yipee!

Upcoming this week

 

I shall have some more time to devote to developing my designs from this week, my mother in law will be going to memory therapy group all day on a Thursday, so I shall have some down time for me, I am so looking forward to it.

 



Also happening is the Jane Crowfoot Crochet Club 2013, I recieved the first pattern download yesterday, so will be busy looking at that in the next few days.

Janie Crowfoot Crochet Club 2013

Whilst browsing at the knitting and stitching show we ran across a familiar face 

- Jane Crowfoot. For those who remember she used to teach at our shop.

Jane was promoting her Crochet Club, and it looked amazing, so I signed up.

Last week my pack turned up - just waiting for the pattern info to arrive so I can start crocheting

The fun continues

Well here are a couple of photo updates of the Top Down Lace Cardigan

 

Obviously the back and front! :0)
I had a few rows to go before splitting the arms off onto seperate needles, which I have now done and the lace pattern is starting to look good.
I don't think I will be missed wearing this, the colours are great - lovely and vibrant. I am knitting it in Noro Kureyon Sock yarn shade 180.
It is still taking a long time to knit a row, but the lace is growing quite quickly - more updates to follow....
